Cut the onion in half from stem to tip. Cut off the tip and peel back to skin.
Start at the top and my several horizontal cuts through the onion.
Next, make vertical cuts. These layers (horizontal and vertical) can be as big or as small as you wish to make them-depending on what your recipe calls for.
Last, chop crosswise and VOILA! chopped onions!
